Hi, my name is Leandro I am seventeen years old, and I am currently studying in civil engineering. I've always been passionate about landscaping, and construction. This is why I am doing a glossary on it. The targeting audience for my glossary are the people that have an ardent for construction and the people that need to learn terms that are used in construction frequently.
backfilling

The replacement of excavated earth into a trench around or against a basement /crawl space foundation/wall.
Example: Cover the pipe with some washed stone, and then backfill the trench with soil.

backflow Prevention Device
noun
Valve required by the City of PDX to prevent water in your irrigation system from being siphoned back into the water supply.
Example: We need the backflow prevention device to prevent the water to get in the house.

balance
noun
A design concept, where elements in the landscape are in “balance” with one another. The size, orientation, and perceived mass of elements all play a role. This is highly subjective.
Example: We need to make sure the pavé is in balance.

blue print
noun
Type of copying method often used for architectural drawings. Usually used to describe the drawing of a structure which is prepared by an architect or designer for the purpose of design and planning, estimating, securing permits and actual construction.
Example: Use this blue print to see the configuration of the space.

contour

Purposeful change in ground elevations or grade. These may take the form of a mound, swale, or combination of the two.
Example: The contour in the front of the house was changed.

A horizontal row or tier of stone, paver, or wood in a wall, patio, or landscape screen.
Example: The wall is a course filled with wood and stones.

All the weight in a structure made up of unmovable materials.
Example: We can't move the materials we have a dead load.

Cavity or pit produced by digging the earth in preparation for construction.

A visual inspection of a building and on-site improvements for functional or physical deterioration; prepare optional Replacement Cost Estimate for making recommendations to improve functional and physical deficiencies to increase market value; AND/OR prepare a Reserve Study over five (5) years to increase Net Operating Income (NOI) for the facility.
